Dating with the Gilmore Girls

E 205 Danishes and a new Character

A long one. We start the episode discussing the wonderful Danishes Abby made for the episode. We open with Simon showing his distate for the Sex Pistols, and then we note that its insane that boy scouts would expect a diner to serve them grilled cheese or burgers at 7:30 in the morning after having glued rocks together all night. We note that Luke suddenly gets a phone call and wonder if it means a new character will enter the show and ask while the credits run who is the new actor Milo...who?. 
 
We move from the opening to talk about the background of the Luke Dane family and how we have a canon discontonuity with Jess the new character. As well as how much Luke contacts his extended family.  Next we have aside where we discuss late dramatic and comedy actor Leslie Nielson and introduce Jess. We look at Rory's first day at Chilton for her second year there and issues with Paris, like Paris giving her the wrong time to go to the newspaper for its first meeting.  And then how Rory runs into Max Medina who was practically left at the alter by her mother the previous episode. Simon speculates on the plumbing of Chilton. 
 
We discuss how Rory doesn't 'wild' despite Lorelai's claims, and then look at how this episode is the first time the A plot actually doesn't involve the Gilmore girls but (for the moment) two b characters, Luke and Jess. We discuss how Luke is trying to be easy on Jess despite his desire for rules to be maintained. We discuss Rory being offered to meet with Max Medina for an article by Paris hoping to sabotage her, and Rory deciding to take it. Then wee look at how the dinner set up between Jess, Luke, Rory, Lorelai, Suki and Jackson goes badly. Simon makes a aside that he found Howl by Ginsberg to be a piece of poetry that didn't agree with him. Then we discuss how both Luke and Lorelai act horribly Lorelai trying to interfere on Luke's attempt at parenting and Luke being less then charitable about Lorelai's situation
 
We discuss Jess's criminal tendencies, like staling a gnome, Lorelai trying to bribe a kid, and then Rory's interview with Max. We look at Jess having mislead Rory on his suggested lack of reading abilities.  And then Luke apparently losing it over Jess being disrespectful and then forcing Jess to have some ground rules. And we then end with a discussion if Lorelai was trying to be a little too involved with Luke's parenting of Jess.

E 204 Scones and Harvard

We open up our episode discussing the amazing not from the Official Cook Book scones Abby made. Then we talk about If other people figured Lorelai would sadly not walk down the Aisle with Max based on Suki and company's reactions when she calls them over the phone to say the "Weddings is off". We follow that up with Abigail saying we should have wall paper that looks like it moves with Simon suggesting he would rather go homelesss. We follow that up with  mentoning two of the guest stars in the episode and looking at their impact on the film industry. This is followed up by a more serious discussion if Rory should be interrogating Lorelai with us not fully agreeing on that topic. We move on to a more lighthearted topic about the grounds of UCLA... We mean Harvard. We debate if Lorelai is having second thoughts about her life and have a intense debate about which university her now ex fiancee Max Medina attended. Then we end noting how this episode effectively set off Lorelai's quest to buy and establish a Inn.

P.S. We're Late

A episode we did really late. We talk about playing the 1,2,3 Game. Why you would hate someone if you bought them meowing cat mits. Why is Luke a bad gift giver and will remain one.  Misses Kim's presaging a LOTR meme a year before the movie trilogy adaptation was released. We have a long conversation about how Rory in her bad state following her breakup with Dean is while exasperating also is justified due to her age and never having experienced this before. We joke how Lorelai shouldn't like Indian food because of season 2. We have two segways : first, why in Simon's view Lorelai committed a felony, and second, how bad men's fashion in the 1990s.  We debate Lorelai as a teenager. Whether Rory running to the Gilmore's was fine. We have a small segway about Max and his obvious father like affection for Rory. Does Max have a point to expect Rory might know of him and Lorelai and was Lorelai selling Rory short in her not telling Rory. We discuss if Lorelai has AAA auto insurance. We realize how Lorelai confronting Dean at Dose's means that it creates a weird discontinuity in the next episode and finish looking at how Rory does a good job in admitting she was wrong. 

E203 Sad End to a Wedding

We start this episode off by discussing the ethics of tasting wedding cakes if you are already scheduled someone to make you a wedding cake, while we eat Ben and Jerry's as part of our date.  Why Max staying over reveals that Lorelai doesn't see a future between Lorelai and Max as Lorelai and to a lesser extent Rory keep him from watching Billy Jack with them. We discuss if you should put bruschetta in a broiler. Why has Max never been to Luke's and why Max should be able to read the menu in peace. Why Simon feels it is unrealistic that a town of 9000 people doesn't have stoplight.  Why doesn't Max mow the lawn? We discuss whether  a stepparent should be able to discipline a child. We have segway where wt talk about  the introduction of Fran, played by actress Linda Porter and her other roles. We reinforce out theory of Max coming from a large family. Simon defends Emily going to the drag club.  Chris and Lorelai and Lorelai calling him from her Bachelorette party. Why Max is right here about Lorelai, even though way too harsh. Lorelai's self deception about the wedding and the end of the engagement. 

E 202 Cookies and Chicken Kiev

We open the episode talking about the newspaper Lorelai may be wearing. Then Simon has a rant about Renaissance English playwrights and too many classes at Chilton on Shakespeare. We talk about Emily and Lorelai and Emily feeling slighted about finding out about Lorelai's engagement to Max by way of Sookie and imagining it as a intentional slight.  We discuss if we will have chicken Kiev at our wedding and why Simon is against it and Abby is for it and not having a big cake.  Simon talks about Barbarella and the new wave of late 60s early 70s movies in Hollywood. Why Rory is in the wrong about freaking about extra curriculars taking up her summer. We speculate that Max comes from a rather large family. The continual destructive need of both Lorelai and Emily to engage in metaphorical knifing into each other when arguing. Why chocolate preleen cookies are amazing. How it is amazing in the pre 9-11 world that Lane could finish DJing at 8 PM and leave for a flight a 9:30 PM and that is not unrealistic.  We discuss the reference to the band the Damned and their musical impact. Abby talks about speed of ketchup. We are both perplexed is Lorelai seeing Luke at her engagement party. The truce between Lorelai and and Emily. And does Max have a Master's or a PHD.

E201 A Whole New Season!

We discuss how we totally didn't make this episode after the finale of season 1. How Gilmore Girls tries to not have large breaks for summer. Why we don't have bridal magazines at our wedding. The town literally stalking Lorelai when she tells Luke about the engagement to Max.  Why does Sookie not seem to know Lorelai was back with Max. Why is Lorelai not telling her parents about the engagement. Why Simon thinks it was unlikely Rory was in the top 3% of Chilton by the end of her first year at Chilton. Why brussel sprouts are perfectly fine at a wedding and Simon is totally right. Lane being exiled to South Korea. Abby wearing the Stephanie Seymour dress to our upcoming wedding. We look at Joan and Melissa Rivers and the movie they did.  Rory wanting Dean to meet Richard and the irony o it. How its perfectly fine to wear a Victoria's Secret nighty to a party with your parents. Richard being a jerk to Dean.  And why Richard doesn't like Beeforoni. We decide don't like Twinkies, finding them tasteless. Emily showing some humility early on. And how the Gilmore's find out about Lorelai and Max's engagement by way of Sookie.

E 121, The Finals, Chili Cheese Fries, and more episodes.

This is the finale of the first season, yes we cannot find episode 20 where we screwed up strodle, its a long episode. We start asking if Lorelai is dreaming Luke at the start of the episode, or if he is there. We discuss how we begin Lane as the show going "what do we do with Lane?". We have a discussion  if Taylor was yet meant to be a character with lore or merely a comedic element for him not trust Rory in the store and not remembering Rory's relationship with Dean. We talk about the commonality of episodes having stories for both Lorelai and Rory that are largely the exact same storyline in their own way.  We talk about what would the proper type of umbrella to defend oneself if someone breaks into your house. We cover the introduction of Dean Forester's younger sister, Clara and her actress's later accomplishment, and discuss why would Clara be at a town meeting with Dean if she is like 8 or 9 years old. We talk about the good flavors of a ring pop. Why Lorelai is "again it" . We are surprised how Taylor and Luke don't like the Troubador and the origin of Long Haired Freak. We cover the end of the Rachel relationship,  why Max is not the best for Lorelai and how is it he never met Luke before this episode. We are amazed that Chilton actually has kids capable of playing hackeysack and reveal why in our eyes its not unreal at all that a Junior runs her private school's newspaper. Rory and Dean getting back together. We discuss a totally not inappropriate reference to Kirk by Michel and then Lorelai and Max proposal. And finally was this meant to be a final episode? 

A Very Long Epsiode about Nuts, and Trust Funds

`We look at the first episode we meet the third Lorelai. That being the Richard's Mother also known as "gran" or "Trix". We talk about Lorelei's possible relation with her namesake when she was Rory's age, and then look at Tristan going on a date with Paris. We have a intense debate over when a trust should be made for someone, as well as explanations of how trusts can work. We make a slight aside for another WB show of the time that Abby didn't know about. We also have a debate about Gran deciding to not leave a trust for Lorelai and if Rory ever got her Trust. We went long on this one and had to edit alot out. 

Episode 1-19 Ruined Pancakes

First upload since we got married., Abby ruins the pancakes. We discuss the dynamics of Kim's antiques, Abby explain how to use a grapefruit spoon as a weapon, we discuss how there are way too many Charlie's Angels. We infer that Lorelai has a extreme variety of shoes. We look at the  first appearance of the Dragonfly Inn. We discuss how does Rory have a job at the Independence Inn. And whether Emily was right to be horrified at seeing the original place Rory and Lorelai lived in for their first 5 years in Star's Hollow. As well as when was Rachel dating Luke before? We review discuss music choices of Lane. Abby's issues with dancing. And then 2000s boy bands. Abby mocks Simon dislike of Chili fries. We discuss Lorelai's attempt at facilitating a relationship between Luke. In the end we discuss Emily's verbal attack on Lorelai over the original apartment she and Rory had at the Inn.
